SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX should be kept in a 15 cm3 lock box in Dr. Sharp's office at all times unless approved for testing. Box should be comprised of steel. Testing to determine if SCP-XXXX becomes active in card games other than Texas Hold'em Poker is in progress.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a novelty king of hearts playing card with a skeletal motif. The colors of SCP-XXXX vary drastically from a regular king of hearts, with the overall card being much darker than normal. SCP-XXXX came to the Foundation's attention when an unusual number of deaths began occurring in the group of individuals who participated in the █████████ Hotel and Casino's annual poker tournament.

When placed into a standard deck of playing cards, SCP-XXXX takes the appearance of a normal king of hearts. Through testing, it has been concluded that all players using the deck with SCP-XXXX in it will view it as such. SCP-XXXX's anomalous properties emerge after its first appearance in a game. In each hand that the individual participates in after SCP-XXXX is first viewed, that person will win the hand, no matter what cards they possess.

After leaving the table, the increased luck of the individual will continuously manifest. In time, this increased luck alienates the individual from others, which is accompanied with an onset of depression and loneliness. Following an undetermined amount of time, the individual's luck will cease, causing them to commit suicide.

List of deaths occurring as a result of SCP-XXXX:

  • One (1) man aged thirty-four (34) was found dead in his home thirty-five (35) days after first encountering SCP-XXXX. Individual was found face down in his bedroom with a small ball-point pen inserted into the top-left of his skull to the depth of 3 cm. A small journal was found on his bedside table, detailing the weeks after his first encounter with SCP-XXXX (See Addendum XXXX-A).
  • One (1) man aged twenty-seven (27) was found impaled on the sword of a statue outside of the ██████ █████ apartment complex seventy-two (72) days after first encountering SCP-XXXX. Individual jumped from his 4th story balcony and onto the statue, impaling himself through the occipital condyles.
  • One (1) man and one (1) woman, both aged twenty-three (23) who committed suicide together by means of driving their car over the ███████████ Bridge thirty-six (36) days after first encountering SCP-XXXX. Cause of death was shown to not be from the impact of the car in the water, but the crash through the guard rail. A piece of metal from the rail approximately 1.82 m (6 ft) long joined the two at the head in the car, entering through the driver's side window and impaling both individuals.
