Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: Due to the heavily urbanized nature of subject's location a unit from MTF Pi-1 (aka "City Slickers") has been assigned to contain the anomaly and prevent civilian access. MTF Pi-1 are currently making use of the nearby abandoned E██████ boarding house (henceforth referred to as Site-78), a long-term Foundation asset often used during extended containment and transportation of anomalous objects and materials throughout the city. Modifications to Site-78 since discovery and subsequent containment of subject include structural modification to accommodate a basement level access point through which the subterranean perimeter of subject can be monitored for unauthorized foot traffic and any here-to undiscovered extraneous anomalies without drawing undue attention to Foundation activities. Any unauthorized persons are to be detained, questioned and given Class-C amnesiacs before they are released.
Description: Discovered in 19██ within the city of █████, France during the first wave of illegal civilian explorations into ██████ after a spate of reports concerning missing persons drew the attention of Foundation agents within the district Gendarme. Subsequent investigations of subterranean access points lead personnel to what is currently known as the only entrance into the subject, the establishment of Site-78 and to the first exploration of the anomalous site (see exploration log 001 for details).
SCP-XXXX is thought to be a dimensional pocket located approximately one hundred and fifty (150) meters below street level, the structure of the chambers and tunnels within the anomaly do not match up to any existing maps and attempts to access the subject through tunnels surrounding it's presumed physical location have only led researchers into known, non-anomalous areas corresponding to maps in Foundation possession and have weakened the subterranean structure surrounding the subject considerably, for this reason attempts at breaching subject through unorthodox means have been stopped on the order of Dr. S███████. In order to access it the exploration team must first remove the manhole cover located on the ██████ and ████ intersection, before descending down a ladder into what Site-78 Staff refer to as the "antechamber".
It is worth mentioning at this point that samples taken from the manhole cover, ladder and concrete lining of the hole have tested to be mundane and not in any discernible way anomalous -Site-78 Research Team.
SCP-XXXX-01 is thought to manifest itself upon objects (living or inanimate) taken past the antechamber inside SCP-XXXX for a period estimated at around 3 hours. The cause is not yet fully understood, the effect is fatal to living beings and will ultimately destroy any material that is
brought out of SCP-XXXX
The antechamber is lain out in a cylindrical fashion, twelve (12) meters by twelve (12) meters in diameter with a domed ceiling fifteen (15) meters high at its apex. The room is constructed of sandstone blocks with two (2) small concaves on either side wall which at one point would have appeared to house two (2) objects made from bronze with all that's left in the concaves being heavily oxidized stumps of metal bearing traces matching a large iron file. To the front of the entry ladder stands a reinforced pine door in a style which would suggest late 1█th century Germanic craftsmanship.
The areas beyond the antechamber door and the tunnel leading off it have only ever been observed remotely by Site-78 research personnel, see logs for more details. The door may only be opened by hand, attempts to remove the door or force it open mechanically have met with repeated failure and often the destruction of equipment involved.
Exploration teams are to consist of three (3) D Class personnel —and two (2) armed members of MTF Pi-1 - each equipped with MRE packs and subterranean navigation equipment, including NVG, flashlights + batteries to last one (1) week.
Due to the incidents filed below, exploration teams will hereby consist of three (3) armed Class D personnel alone. We cannot afford to lose any more MTF personnel than we already have -Dr. S███████.
Exploration 001 - 27th ██████, 19██
Objective: Determine anomalous properties with a mind to developing sufficient containment procedures
Personnel: D-0155A, D-0993B, D-0246C, MTF Operator "Billiard", MTF Operator "Bishop"
Procedure: Watching on remote cameras attached to the MTF Operator's helmets are Dr. S███████ and assistant researcher L██████. After checking radios in the antechamber the exploration team set out, passing through the door which predictably slammed shut after D-0993B allowed the last member through. After walking for approximately 5 minutes in pitch black the team emerge in a chamber the same rough height as the antechamber but far wider, at least 30 meters length and breadth wise. "Bishop" can be heard to exclaim [EXPLETIVE REDACTED] while the view from his camera appears to show crates marked [REDACTED] alongside antique assorted militaria and spent oil lanterns.
D-0115A and D-0246C are on the other side of the room with MTF Operator "Billiard" when a sharp crack is heard, the cameras confirm a brief flash from the northernmost corner of the chamber as "Billiard" collapses to the ground.
Another crack is heard shortly after followed by shouting and what sounds to be frantic movement. Operator "Bishop"'s feed is heavily blurred followed by a brief silence. "Bishop" is then seen to violate orders by opening fire on an unseen target.
After firing the Operator moves to the northernmost wall revealing a heavily desiccated and emaciated body leaning there bearing Schutzstaffel [REDACTED] division insignia and clutching what appears to be a heavily modified model Sturmgewehr 44 automatic rifle. The body is surrounded by brass casings of an unknown caliber. MTF Operator "Billiard" is confirmed deceased shortly after.
"Bishop" is heard to order a regroup of the D-Class personnel who are now visibly shaken before securing the two bodies plus samples from the equipment stocks in the room and calling an end to the operation.
Result: The operation is considered a partial failure through loss of personnel and early retreat. Interestingly enough however, not long after coming under Site-78 Containment both the unknown body and the equipment (much of which in fine, operable condition for it's age) had degraded to such an extent that they were barely recognizable anymore, the body had become bone and scraps of cloth over a period of 12 hours.
The operational goals remain unfulfilled at this time, however at this point we can without a doubt confirm the anomalous nature of the SCP -Dr. S███████
Exploration 002 - 17th █████, 19██
Objective: Penetrate further into subject and investigate source of SCP-XXXX-1
Personnel: D-01477G, D-01387H, MTF Operator "Bishop" N.B, original team was to consist of D-Class personnel from exploration 001. The three D-Class were terminated early on grounds of outright refusal to participate -Dr. S███████
Procedure: Re-navigating the antechamber tunnel complex the team emerge into the first chamber, following a short scan around by flashlight "bishop" orders the team to proceed. The chamber appears to be in much the same state as it was during the initial exploration.
Approaching the mouth of another passageway D-01387H can be heard complaining about a "[EXPLETIVE REDACTED] nasty feeling" and begins to show symptoms of acute [REDACTED], given D-01287H's history of aggressive psychosis neuroleptic medication is administered at this point.
The passageway narrows as the team continue down it and merges with another to the right. At this point the walls widen and man-made enclaves embedded into each side can be made out, each enclave containing a single used candle + holder. The team exit out into a chamber proportionately similar to the first. In anticipation of a repeat incident "Bishop" orders the 2 D-Class personnel to stick close, the team are then seen to move through the chamber - nailed to the sandstone walls are vandalized silk tapestries depicting [REDACTED] that later video analysis has identified as being thought lost and/or destroyed during the 1789 Republican revolt. One or two other tapestries and some sections of wall are noted to be sporadically dotted with rough holes which would correlate to the brass bullet casings found in some areas of the chamber. After a short time searching the team come across a [REDACTED] group of human cadavers clad in indistinct ragged clothing, each bearing the same signs of advanced desiccation. At this time "Bishop" attempts to catalog the bodies when one resembling a young man, possibly in his late 20s begins to [DATA EXPUNGED], is now seen crawling through a narrow natural vent and dropping down into a dried up underground ravine. The helmet cam feed is shaky and difficult to make out but later video editing would suggest [DATA EXPUNGED], labored breathing and is now approaching a crude man-made structure carved into the rockface - what appears to be an imitation of the Forum of A██████ in ████, Italy. A series of dim lights can be seen out of the corner of the screen followed by a low rumble and the feed is cut-off.
Result: D-01477G is discovered two days later behind the antechamber door, severely dehydrated and in a state of shock. Broken [REDACTED] and missing fingernails suggest an attempt at forced exit. After bringing D-01477G out of the subject he was pronounced deceased by Foundation medical personnel. D-01387H and MTF Operator "Bishop" are as of yet undiscovered and presumed KIA. Samples recovered from D-01477G as well as the body of D-01477G had rotted to dust by the following morning.
Addendum: It has been decided to halt all experimentation and exploration of the subject at the present time, it is enough to keep anyone from entering right now -Dr. S███████
