SCP-XXX |
Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures Update: SCP-XXX is to be kept in a secured safe with no less than two key locks, one digital combination lock, one [REDACTED], and one padlock. Keys to the safe are to be kept by one Level 5 clearance staff member and one Level 4 clearance staff member. This safe is to be kept in a 2 m X 2 m X 2 m room. One guard is placed outside the door, which has an electronic keypad lock on it. Until further notice, any testing with SCP-XXX requires an O5 approval.
SCP-XXX is not to be withing 50m of any other SCP at any time.
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be contained inside a secured safe. No personnel is to have access to SCP-XXX except in cases of testing and with the oversight of Dr. ███.
Description: SCP-XXX is a vintage spirit level made of wood and brass, approximately 45 cm in length, estimated to be from 19██. It bears no manufacturer or design identification, the only markings are the letters MCE on the bottom. Object is in remarkable condition for it's age though is beginning to show wear. SCP-XXX is currently stored in the 1950s era Bell System canvas and leather tool bag it was discovered with, the bag shows no abnormal effects.
The effects of SCP-XXX activate while the object is being used by subject, whether physically touching subject or kept in [REDACTED]. Once SCP-XXX leaves the proximity of the subject, the effect ceases. Most subjects show a compulsion to build while in possession of SCP-XXX, even subjects with little experience in carpentry and construction are able to build simple structures. Experiment results are inconclusive in determining if obsession is due to the object's effects or if behavior is purely psychological.
When SCP-XXX is used in the construction of any architectural design, it's effect activates. Structures created with SCP-XXX may take on non-Euclidean and hyperbolic geometrical properties. This process is controllable by the subject. Hallways, stairs, and rooms built with this object may curve and fold space against known physics. Architecture designed in this way allow for redundant loops and rooms that overlap the same spacetime. Structures of SCP-XXX's design are shown to alter the laws of gravity, aerodynamics, and physics.
Subject holding SCP-XXX does not have to complete all construction. If subject is directing construction any architecture built is effected, however SCP-XXX must remain "on site" for any effects to take place. This proximity is not yet determined. Due to requirements of construction for effect to take place, Dr. ███ has classified SCP-XXX as Safe.
Due to Incident XXX-1's spacetime disaster, structures built by SCP-XXX must be deconstructed manually with SCP-XXX present.
SCP-XXX was discovered by accident during a response to an anomalous structure. Numerous reports of missing persons in ██████ brought [REDACTED] to The Foundation's attention. Exploration inside the building led to the extraction of the object, and due to the hyperbolic architecture the building was [DATA EXPUNGED].
Addendum XXX-1: Due to Experiment-213, Class has been raised to Euclid, and all testing access will be granted only by approval of an O5 member.
Addendum XXX-2: Due to Experiment-214, it is recommended to suspend access with SCP-XXX indefinitely.
I really don't care what O5-█ thinks. I reviewed the incident through remote with my own eyes. I'm filing a full report and recommendation to have this thing sealed away forever. -Dr. █████
Addendum XXX-3: Incident and Experiment Logs
Experiment 15:
Researcher ██████ successfully builds a 254 mm x 254 mm x 508 mm birdhouse. Fiberoptic camera reveals interior of object is estimated at 1 m x 1 m x 2 m.
Birdhouse is currently located in rest area 3, under care of Researcher ██████.
Experiment 32:
Subject is D-92119, male, 28 years of age. Subject's background shows instance of grand larceny / extortion, previous occupation in Carpentry. Subject supplied carpentry tools.
Subject builds a square box, attempting an interior larger than it's exterior. Subject fails to produce anomalous result, complains of task impossibility and mysterious noises. Investigation of noise reveals nothing, Dr. █████ diagnoses D-92119 as suffering frustration and fatigue induced hallucination.
Experiment still considered success, as result indicates that SCP-XXX only allows subject to build what they believe they can.
Incident XXX-2:
Several birds entering Birdhouse in rest area 3 disappear. Investigation reveals nothing. Birdhouse had been moved to storage until further notice.
Experiment 33:
Subject D-92119 authorized to attempt second test. As encouragement, subject is given 3 cc of [REDACTED]. Subject instructed to "use imagination".
Subject builds 0.6 m x 1.21 m x 1.8 m cupboard. Interior of cupboard measures 2 m x 4 m x 5 m. Spacial distortion causes shock and paranoia in D-92119, leading to psych evaluation.
Cupboard is deconstructed, no spacetime events occur as with previous incineration of objects. All further structures to be deconstructed by hand.
Experiment 35:
Due to to proficiency with work, and after a successful psychological evaluation, D-92119 retained for further experiments. Subject supplied with carpentry tools, materials, and three Class D assistants.
Subject successfully builds children's playhouse, measuring 3 m x 3 m x 2.5 m. Structure has door on front wall, one window on east and west walls, and yellow rubber slide protruding from rear wall. It is noted rubber was not provided in materials. When questioned, no Class D could explain discrepancy.
Entering the structure reveals door in rear of interior leading to 6 m x 1.5 m x 2.5 m hallway. Hallway leads to two rooms 3 m x 3 m x 2.5 m in size, each room has respective window leading to exterior windows. Doorway at end of hallway leads to a small 1 m x 1 m x 2.5 m room, floor drops down into slide. Slide runs through estimated 10 m x 1 m x 1m tunnel and exits out rear of playhouse.
Researchers take turns on slide. One researcher remarks hearing scratching noises in slide tunnel. Investigation reveals nothing.
Incident XXX-3:
SCP-███ behaving erratically, paranoid, remarking "It bores through the walls of reality" repeatedly. When questioned, SCP-███ refuses to elaborate. Outbursts heighten during testing of SPC-XXX. Until testing is done, SPC-███ has been temporarily moved to Site-█.
Experiment 85:
Subject D-92119 has successfully mastered spatial construction, showing proficiency at building architecture that bends spacetime. Subject instructed to create looping cycle, and shared-spatial rooms. Subject supplied with carpentry tools, materials, and eight Class D assistants.
Subject builds flat square staircase 6 m x 6 m with 1 m wide stairs and hollow center. D-51383 instructed to stand on staircase. Once on stairs, D-51383 stands at 45° slant, instructed to climb stairs. Stairs continue upwards indefinitely, D-51383 climbs up stairs for ten minutes, then descends stairs for thirty minutes. D-51383 exits stairs at entry point,. D-51383 comments that experience is disorienting for several seconds both when entering and exiting, but traversing the stairs feels 'normal'.
The next day D-92119 builds overlapping rooms, two 5 m x 2 m x 2.5 m hallways that intersect perpendicularly. Each hallway is a clear walk from beginning to end, despite overlapping spacetime placement.
All Class D involved in construction are rewarded with benefits appropriate for successful testing. D-92119 is secretly administered [REDACTED].
Incident XXX-4:
Several Personnel report strange noises from SCP-XXX testing area. Nothing is recorded on visual or audio surveillance. Dr. █████ suggests [REDACTED].
Experiment 100:
Project Winchester is to be completed in stages. Each section will be recorded as a separate experiment.
Subject D-92119 is offered freedom in exchange for final experiment. Testing moved to Dimensional Area ███ to account for space required. Security precautions high, MTF Iota-8 (aka "The Spacial Bends") standing by. A dozen volunteer Researchers and Dr. █████ will monitor the structure daily. Subject is supplied carpentry tools, industrial construction equipment, materials, sleeping cots, mobile showers, mobile food cart, and fifteen Class D assistants. Crew will stay inside Dimensional Area ███ with structure for duration of Project Winchester.
Subject D-921119 starts by building porch. Construction goes without incident.
I would like to note that while many of you have seen a lot of good in D-92119, to the point of lovingly calling him [REDACTED], all Class D are to be terminated according to schedule. Despite rumors, D-92119 will not actually receive a Class-A Amnesiac and be released back into the public. He's simply bought himself a stay of execution. Don't get soft on me. - Dr. █████
Experiment 126:
Construction of Project Winchester continues. Structure is currently two story house 7.3 m tall with an open front porch and enclosed back porch. External structure indicates area of 176 m2, while interior of house measures 2014 m2. Twenty three rooms over three floors connected by central staircase discovered. Construction crew suffers paranoia and confusion. Four Class D are replaced. D-92119 displaying symptoms of over-worked exhaustion. Dr.█████ assesses D-92119, project takes two days off.
Experiment 188:
External structure has not changed. Interior measures over 4000 m2 with twenty nine rooms across five stories. Various rooms overlap spacetime. Interior has become maze-like. Workers complain of strange noises but daily sweeps of interior reveal nothing. D-92119 showing signs of increasingly aggressive frustrated behavior. Arguments between Class D crew increase, noticeably between D-92119 and D-51383.
Incident XXX-5:
D-51383 did not return at the scheduled dinner. Crew members remember last seeing D-51383 on the fifth floor. MTF Iota-8, armed with SCP-XXX, move into structure to investigate. Strange noises heard from room on fifth floor. Iota-8 smashes down wall to discover closed loop staircase sealed off from house, D-51383 recovered suffering dehydration and [REDACTED], immediately falls unconscious. Medical assessment reveals D-51282 was on loop staircase for three days, despite only missing for two hours. D-51282 awakens and recovers next day.
D-51383 reveals D-92119 built staircase and tricked D-51383 into it, sealing him off. D-51383 walked the stairs downwards and upwards for an entire day before realizing staircase is endless. After sleeping for a night, D-51383 was awakened by terrifying noises and shadows. These anomalies chased him up the staircase for two days before being rescued.
D-51383 is removed from crew. Project Winchester is halted pending several sweeps of interior. D-92119 grows increasingly obsessed with resuming construction. Dr.█████ suggests to terminate D-92119 soon and conclude with the Experiment.
Experiment 213:
Construction resumes. Within an hour, D-92119 has disappeared. Interrogation reveals Class D assistant overheard a security guard mention D-92119's offered freedom, after which crew argued and D-92119 disappears. Dr.█████ fears D-92119 may attempt to use SCP-XXX to bypass walls and build an exit outside of the facility. Crew ordered to retrieve SCP-XXX with or without D-92119. After three hours one surviving crew member D-63684 returns, covered in blood, with SCP-XXX. The area is locked down and all personnel evacuated.
D-63684's interrogation follows:
Dr. █████: What exactly happened?
D-63684: I told you, those things got everyone.
Dr. █████: Those things? What do you mean-
D-63684: We went in, like you asked us. Stuck in groups of four. Searched room to room. As soon as the front door shut and we were closed inside… that sound. That god awful sound.
Dr. █████: The scraping? And what else did you say here on your report…an eating sound?
D-63684: Not eating. Like, the sound hungry animals make. Chattering teeth. Some idiot thought hey, why don't we follow it? So we followed the sound to…
Dr. █████: You found the secret room that D-92119 had been hiding from you.
D-63684: Right. And the shadows danced around him. The sounds of…I can't even describe it.
Dr. █████: What was he doing?
D-63684: The stench. I can still taste it in the back of my throat. It was fucking disgusting.
Dr. █████: What was D-92119 doing?
D-63684: Praying. I think. When we found him he just turned and smiled. So we all leapt for him. Lot of us were sick of his shit. Fed up with his attitude. One of the guys was sayin that if we return the item back to you guys, you might give us a pardon or somethin.
Dr. █████: And it did not go as planned?
D-63684: It was a blur. Those shadows- people were being cut apart piece by piece. It was chopping tiny parts off, fingers first. noses. Then the limbs. I watched guys trying to crawl away. The sounds.
Dr. █████: But you retrieved the object.
D-63684: It was blurry. I don't remember much. So much blood. All I remember after that is wander out the front door and the level was in my hand.
Dr. █████: Very good. That's all you remember.
D-63684: Yeah. I just wanna go home, even if that's back to a cell.
Dr. █████: I'll send you home.
[D-63684 is immediately terminated. Dr. █████ requests SCP-XX class be raised to Euclid and placed under tight security. Dimensional Area ███ closed down pending investigation. SCP-XXX is returned to safe containment. After review of Experiment logs, O5-█ orders one last clean sweep investigation by MTF Iota-8 before deconstruction.]
Experiment 214:
Not finished, here's where bad stuff happens.
Dr. █████: people talk.
[Final conversation.]
