Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in storage room Q3 at Site ██ when not in use. Its use is only allowed with permission from Dr Vettir or one of his superiors. When used, it will be connected to a standard power outlet, and all proceedings will be monitored by CCTV. The proceedings will not be recorded to prevent any possible breach. In the case of a new infection of a playback device by SCP-XXX, that device is to be destroyed via electrostatic shock followed by dismantling of the device and melting down the individual parts. Under no circumstances is it to be hooked up to anything that allows it to transmit data.
Description: SCP-XXX is a JVC 32" 720p 60Hz LCD HDTV DVD combo. Any attempts to hook it up to an outside source result only in static. When a video DVD is placed inside, all actors in the video appear on the screen autonomously. Other than their appearances, they have nothing to do with what is normally on the DVD. They seem to be aware of their existance on a screen, and can verbally and visually interact with anything that can be seen from the screen. The motivations of the actors seem to vary at random, as do their personalities and knowledge, but a large number of the actors seem to be at the very least capricious, and a few seem to be possibly dangerous sociopathic manipulators. Many of them have expressed a desire to 'get out' and 'see the world'.
In addition, it seems that if interactions with SCP-XXX are recorded in any way, that recording will be a vector for SCP-XXX, infecting any playback medium that the record is placed in. These infections appear to share knowledge across all instances of SCP-XXX. To date, all such infected devices have been destroyed.
Addendum: SCP-XXX's infectious nature seems to work on VCRs, on audio playback devices, and even on computers. The one time SCP-XXX infected a computer, it accessed all files on that computer regardless of encryption or even, in one case, of inadequate deletion, and attempted to build a driver for the computer's wireless device. Power was cut to the computer, all of its sensitive parts were exposed to a small-scale EMP, and then the parts were dismantled and melted into slag.
