Item #: SCP-1441
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-1441 must be kept within a 1TB external hard-drive at all times; under no circumstance is a copy of the application to be placed within any other type of hard-drive. See Test Log SCP-1441-2c for more details.
Access to SCP-1441 is strictly prohibited, testing is only open to individuals with proper clearance.
Edit: As of Test SCP-1441-3, all testing on SCP-1441 is to be postponed until further notice.
Currently SCP-1441 is contained within Site-15.
Description: SCP-1441 is a computer program that is roughly 127MB in size and is a solitary .exe file residing within its own folder. The program is titled “Ideal Life 2”, with the folder sharing the same name. It was recovered from the apartment of ██████ █████ in ██████ , █████████, based on reports from the owner claiming it was a “100% accurate fortune telling simulator”.
Upon running the .exe, the program displays typical elements found within a type of application known as a visual novel. The program runs in a 800x600 resolution window, and typically opens up to a menu screen. The only options ever observed on the menu screen have been:
Thorough investigation has proven that there is no way to alter any of the properties of the program, internally or externally (see Test 1441-2b for more details). Attempts to access the source code of the program will cause random instances of client-side errors. It is currently unknown as to why these errors are only client-side.
Upon starting a new game, the player is asked to enter their full name. Entering a name that does not exist will cause the program to close itself, and the player may enter the name of someone else, but only someone else they know of. Attempting to enter the name of someone not known to the player will also result in the program closing itself. Upon successfully entering the full name of an individual, the program will enter a loading phase for exactly 1 minute and 23 seconds, before finally entering the game. Upon starting, the player will find themselves taken through a scripted plot much like any typical visual novel, and eventually they will come to a decision event. Upon making a decision, the plot will progress normally. All decisions within the game have no more than two choices.
Research has identified that the events that occur within the game are actually events that will occur in the future for the designated individual. Characters, environments and even trivial things such as climate, weather and feelings of the individual themselves are replicated as they would be in reality. As such, the decisions encountered are decisions that the designated individual will face in the near future, and the events that take place from at least one decision made from every event have been proven to be true (see Test 1441-1 for more information). As of yet, it is currently impossible to prove the validity of both routes available from each decision. Attempts have been made to defy the program by fulfilling conditions to meet both choices of a decision. See Test Log SCP-1441-1d for more details.
The times at which the program begins reading the future seem to differ, but most instances occur after 24 to 29 hours since the last session in the program was closed. Furthermore, the events within the program will never detail anything about the individual spending time using the program in the future, even if they do so. This has been proven through various tests. Players may save the game when a decision event occurs, therefore being able to see both the routes that can occur depending on the decision made. Saved files will remain, even if the event has already passed in the present. However, the option that the individual decided on in reality cannot be selected in the save file, making the player use the other option. Players can play through the game normally from then on without issue. Deletion of saved files is not advised under any circumstance (see Test Log SCP-1441-3b for more details).
There is, as of yet, no defined end-point. It has been predicted that the end-point is in fact when the individual’s life ends, however further research into the matter has been prohibited to preserve the safety of individuals interacting with the program due to the events that occurred in Test SCP-1441-1b. Efforts have been put into the investigation of a possible prequel program, given the sequel-like nature of the title. No information has been found presently. Investigations into the matter are continuing.
Addendum
The following tests were performed to explore the connections between events that take place within the program and events that occur in reality.
1a
Subject: Subject D-335
Summary: Subject played through a single day within the program. Two major decisions were encountered. Subject was ordered to make the decisions that benefited them the most.
Description: Subject proceeded through a normal day of work with no obscure changes in routine.
Results: The following day, D-335 lived through all the events examined within the program previously with 100% accuracy. D-335 was particularly delighted with decisions made regarding their lunch-break and work plans. D-335 requested further access to the usage of SCP-1441; request denied.
1b
Subject: Subject D-336
Summary: Subject played through a single day within the program. Three major decisions were encountered. Subject was ordered to make the worst decisions possible in each event.
Description: Subject started off with an average day which quickly took a turn for the worst because of one bad decision and eventually came to the expiration of D-336.
Results: The following day, D-336 lived through the events examined within the program. Events starting taking a turn for the worst when D-336 decided to continue work rather than converse with a colleague. Results of this included an argument with aforementioned colleague and a large accumulation of stress in D-336. The next decision made was to send an angry message to another colleague in response to a dispute that occured two days before the test. Results of this included D-336 accumulating even more stress when aforementioned colleague decided to abandon him for other work. The third decision made was to go to the bathroom to wash hands instead of waiting for a break period. D-336 proceeded to the bathrooms and washed his hands. Subject was then reported to have slipped over on the wet floor due to rushing themselves and hit the back of their head on the counter, resulting in instant expiration from blunt trauma. Future tests decided to be taken with more caution.
1c
Subject: E-class Personnel, D█████ T██████
Summary: Subject played through three days within the program. Eight decisions were encountered overall. Subject was ordered to make decisions as they normally would.
Description: Subject worked through the first two days, and experienced personal issues during the third.
Results: The following three days, subject was examined closely. Again, events within the program took place in reality. Subject worked through the days casually until the third day, where they received an unfortunate message from their spouse. Two days following the events of the predicted days, subject requested time-off to tend to personal matters at home.
1d
Subject: Subject D-337
Summary: Subject played through a single day within the program. Two major decisions were encountered. Subject was ordered to make the decisions, but was also ordered to attempt fulfilling both of them in reality.
Description: Subject proceeded through a normal day of work with no obscure changes in routine.
Results: The following day, D-337 reached the first decision. Upon attempting to fulfil conditions for both decisions, D-337 seemed to have successfully carried the procedure out; D-337 managed to speak to both colleagues, rather than just the one chosen in the program. However, 7 minutes and 32 seconds after fulfilling the conditions for both decisions, D-337 reported feeling a sensation within his chest similar to severe heartburn. Moments later, D-337's body was reported to have fallen into violent convulsions while speaking with a colleague before [DATA EXPUNGED] . Future users and testers have been advised to never attempt this approach again.
The following tests were performed to explore the physical properties of the program itself.
2a
Summary: Attempts were made to access the integrity of the .exe program.
Results: All attempts made to access the program failed. Testers report client-side errors whenever attempts to access the source of the program were made.
2b
Summary: Attempts were made to change the properties of the program itself.
Results: Changes made were never saved; program kept on reverting to its assigned defaults. Test was abandoned after several attempts.
2c
Summary: Attempts were made to duplicate and move the program from its origin data storage device.
Results: Upon attempting to duplicate the program, the duplicated products become corrupt and unusable. What is more, the program will also start duplicating itself endlessly in the new storage device, effectively becoming a virus. Attempts to move the program itself resulted in the user experiencing similar symptoms to D-337 from Test SCP-1441-1d before [DATA EXPUNGED]. The program itself remained within its folder of origin.
2d
Summary: Attempts were made to delete the program.
Results: Test cancelled under the order of O5-█. No further efforts to eradicate SCP-1441 are to be made.
The following tests were performed in further attempts to understand the properties of the events in the program.
3a
Subject: Subject D-335
Summary: Subject played through a single day within the program. Three major decisions were encountered. Subject was ordered to make decisions in reality that were not one of the two choices made, wherever possible.
Description: Subject proceeded through a normal day of work with no obscure changes in routine.
Results: The following day, upon arriving at the first decision, D-335 decided to carry out his usual routine rather differ from it as advised before the test started. D-335 continued to do this throughout the test. After the procedure had ended, D-335 was interrogated about their actions, and they commented “I know what I was ordered to do, but I simply couldn’t do it. I felt entirely compelled to follow through with what I played through in that novel."
3b
Subject: Subject D-335
Summary: Subject is to delete all their saved data in the program.
Results: [DATA EXPUNGED].
NOTICE: Due to the results of Test SCP-1441-3b, further testing on SCP-1441 has been prohibited to all personnel until further notice from O5-█.
