Item #: SCP-XXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in a padded, locked container when not in use. Only the Site Director and Dr. Lang are given clearance to possess the keys to SCP-XXX's container.

In order to ensure authenticy of lab results, there must always be at least two D-class personnel with no prior affiliation present in the testing area. Once testing has been concluded each particpant is to be immediately separated from each other and interviewed. Under no circumstances are particpants allowed to communiate with one another. Testing must also be carried out in a soundproofed room in order to prevent accidental exposure to researchers.

In addition, all testing materials are to be rigorously sanitized and researched for potential anomalous and/or supernatural activity before being cleared for testing. Under no circumstances is SCP-XXX allowed to come into contact with any other SCP or anomalous item without explicit O5 approval.

Description: SCP-XXX is a standard tuning fork constructed out of steel and trace amounts of an as of yet undetermined material. There are no markings or significant features on SCP-XXX to suggest that it is special in any way, and no indication of where or how it was made. The amount of corrosion on the surface of SCP-XXX suggests that it is ███ years old. However, SCP-XXX's age does not seem to have any negative effect on its performance, which still rivals that of modern tuning forks.

When struck against an object, SCP-XXX performs exactly as a normal tuning fork in all respects. However, as long as SCP-XXX's vibrations are still audible to the human ear, the affected person will hear a voice whispering to them. Most witness reports seem to agree that this voice is male and speaks in a dry, raspy tone. However, there do exist exceptions where subjects have affirmed that the voice was female, or had different vocal qualities. Despite these differences, all recordable subject interviews have stated that this voice will tell them a random fact about the item that SCP-XXX was struck on.

SCP-XXX's facts will range from extremely specific details to cryptic phrases that contain very little, if any, useful information. While a clear pattern to SCP-XXX's facts has yet to be conclusively determined, preliminary research has suggested that SCP-XXX is more likely to divulge more detailed information if the subject has clear expectations of what he wants to hear. If the subject has no clear idea of what he wants to know about the tested object, then SCP-XXX is more likely to give a random or vague fact.

SCP-XXX was found by chance during a Foundation operation to recover SCP-████. SCP-XXX was previously in the possession of an appraisal company with known links to Marshall, Carter, & Black. Evidence recovered during the operation suggests that SCP-XXX was used by MCD to find and appraise anomalous items. However, recovered internal documents and employee turnover rates also suggest that use of SCP-XXX on other SCPs is highly dangerous, which is possibly why SCP-XXX was not kept in an actual MCD facility.
