SCP-XXX-1:

The bushes shook. The leaves did crack
and from the darkened wood
there came a man into the clear
and that is where he stood.

Before him stretched an emerald field
and sunlight's blinding glare.
The clearing’s beauty did astound.
███ ███ could naught but stare.

But wait! He thought. His mind alight,
How did I come to here?
When pain and ceaseless woe had been
my only shield from fear?

“Twas I,” I called with little joy,
perched on a rotten log.
“I’ve freed you briefly from your strain,
your endless friendless fog."

“The hell are you?” asked he, as if
to waste my gift so grand.
“Both jailer and the jailed,” Said I,
and there I moved to stand.

But still the heedless questions came
“And where the hell is this?”
“The fields of Mir,” I answered back.
“Best not to question bliss,”

“Your time is short.” I tried to warn
"If thanks is what you lack
a million more beg for this gift.
I'll gladly send you back."

“Screw that!” he screamed and moved to strike
His mind was not his own.
And so I made his heart stop cold.
His corpse fell like a stone.

The sky did dim. The grass did grey,
The hills did fade away
The only place to bring them joy
will wait till next I play.

And so, his mind, it did return
to there, where time is long.
His tortured screams resumed anew,
immortalized in song.

SCP-XXX-1:
The man awoke, his mind was dazed.
His pale skin glistened bright
as if he woke from awful dreams
that plagued him in the night.

The cell in which he sat was dark.
The walls were slick with dew.
He’d slept upright the night before.
But, still, somehow he knew.

He hadn’t slept; those times were done.
This world did not exist
and even in the tortured dark
The sleep was what he missed.

I stepped out from a darkened cove
His eyes grew wide with fear.
“I’ve paid my dues!” He tried to beg
“But still you bring me here!”

“What finds you down there far exceeds
the pain you get from me
and, as for dues, your debt still grows
You’ll never pay my fee.”

With cittern readied at my side
I crossed the darkened room.
But, suddenly his face did change
His eyes bright in the gloom.

Then he spoke, “It was many and many a year ago…..”

[ SCP-XXX-1 stops playing at this point and is silent for approximately 20 seconds]

SCP-XXX-1: Bastard broke my meter.

[SCP-XXX-1 resumes playing and quickly continues the ballad]

SCP-XXX-1:
I brought the cittern quick and true
across his flapping jaw.
He screamed and spat and moved to hold
his loosely hanging maw.

“You fear me more than what lurks there,
that land devoid of light?
The pain I deal is well deserved,
yet still you show me spite!”

“You stole my love away from me
and bound me to this hell!
But still you spurn my vengeful heart,
or am I wrong? Do tell.

“Fug oo!” he spat. His jaw hung limp
Blood dribbled on the floor.
I raised the horrid object high
My patience held no more.

[SCP-XXX-1 does not speak or sing for the next five minutes. The subject strums every cord on SCP-XXX approximately once per second for the duration.]

SCP-XXX-1:
His face was crushed. His clothes were red.
But, still he sputtered on.
I crushed his skull with one last strike
and, like that, he was gone.

And so, his mind, it did return
to there, where time is long.
His tortured screams resumed anew,
immortalized in song.
