The brass skull container of SCP-XXX

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXX is to be kept in standard 2m by 4m sterile containment cell. The cell must contain no reflective surfaces or objects. The door must remain guarded at all times by at least one security personnel of Class 3 clearance. Whenever the subject is escorted from the cell, either for testing or interviewing, it must be either inactive or, if consciousness is necessary for the test, by two armed security personnel. If an escape attempt is made, SCP-XXX must be ordered to stop by the security personnel. If this has no effect, armed security personnel are permitted to restrain the subject. The subject may make requests for furniture or other items, as long as said items do not violate SCP site security recommendations. All item requests must be signed off by either Dr. ██████ or by two on-site Class 4 clearance personnel before the item is acquired. The subject may not make requests for any mainspring or gear driven devices. Whenever SCP-XXX requires winding, it must either be de-activated or restrained. In the event that restraint is necessary a standard Foundation restraint bed should be used.

Description: SCP-XXX consists of a human skeleton around which a complex clockwork mechanism has been constructed. The skeleton is that of a human male roughly 1.6 meters tall and the whole unit weighs around 180kg. The clockwork mechanism is mainly brass, though larger sections (such as what appears to be the mainspring, located in the upper back) are frequently made of cast iron. This is most likely due to the high stress nature of their function. The human skeleton is complete with the exception of the skull which has been cast in brass. The skeleton serves only as a framework and support for the clockwork. It has no special properties in of itself. The subject was discovered with a traditional winding key in a matching slot on the left shoulder. The key cannot be removed and has been welded in at some point in the past.

The subject was discovered in 2004, when renovations on a Victorian-era house were being made. One wall was knocked through, revealing SCP-XXX in the cavity space behind . The walls had been sealed and mortared completely: no entrances or exits were found. The house was located in [REDACTED], a once populous Victorian area of ██████. When discovered the subject was inactive and immobile responding to neither physical, visual or auditory stimulus.

The metal components made MRI scanning impossible though ultrasound scans reveal the interior of the brass skull is hollow and contains a liquid as well as some softer matter, presumably organic. However this matter is not connected to any other part of the mechanism and as of yet it is unknown whether it serves a purpose in the overall function of the subject. A theory put forward by Dr. ████ stated that the unit was a form of mobile storage for the organic material. However winding of the key in the left shoulder made the subject animate, expressing conscious human-like movement. The movement of the limbs is fluid suggesting a highly complex gear system. The subject has rudimentary speaking capabilities (similar to that of a young child). The 'voice,' that it produces appears to be generated in the chest cavity, and no jaw movements are made when it speaks.

The subject refers to itself as 'Leviticus' but contracts the label to'Levi,' almost always. Interviews and tests (attached below) reveal that the subject is psychologically unstable, afflicted with a number of different diasbilities. Any attempt to wind the key on the subjects shoulder while the subject is conscious has been met with fierce (and often violent) resistance, resulting in the injury of two personnel. It has been noted that the subject will avoid looking at itself in any reflective surface. Test have shown that forcing the subject to look at its reflection will cause it to spasm as well as producing discordant sounding vocal effects. This seems to be linked to the mental deficiencies.

Addendum:

Report on Examination of Skeletal Structure █/██/████ by Dr.█████- The skeleton appears to be male, late twenties to early thirties. Subject appears to have been in good physical condition upon death, no inflammation or deformities noted on the bones. However blunt force trauma has been noted on the Vertebra, just below where the brass skull connect with the human spine. Trauma has also been noted on the right Scapula and the upper back of the right Humerus. The nature of the injuries suggesting massive internal bleeding as well as external bleeding cause by compound fractures. Note: all of the broken bones have had iron reinforcement put in place to move them back into their original shape. The damage suggests that the subject was attacked from behind, presumably with a blunt instrument. This would most likely have been fatal.

First Winding of Subject ██/██/████ by Dr.█████- Subject was restrained using a standard Foundation restraint bed. The key was wound four times by Dr.██████. A clicking was noted every time this was done. The subject emitted a ticking sound for approximately one minute before stopping. The subject remained inactive for another minute before a loud click was heard (presumably the mainspring being released) and a regular ticking sound (approx. one beat per second) was heard. At this point the subject became mobile, attempting to sit upright despite the restraints and emitting a discordant scream from somewhere inside the chest cavity. The only comprehensible speech that the subject made during this time was 'oh god,' and 'make it stop,' repeated a number of times. After twenty minutes, the subject lapsed into silence, still conscious, but not responding to any of the staff.

Interview with Subject ██/██/████ by Dr.█████

Dr.█████: My name's Dr.█████. I'm just here to ask you a couple of question okay? (Pause) Is that okay?
SCP-XXX: Yes
Dr.█████: Okay. Do you have a name?
SCP-XXX: Levi.
Dr.█████: Levi, that's a nice name isn't it?
SCP-XXX: It was my fathers. He was a good man.
Dr.█████: Father? Do you mean your builder?
SCP-XXX: No, my father. He was nice man. He used to take me to the Grocers when I was little.
Dr.█████: Little? You know you're not a person right?
SCP-XXX: (Raised voice) I am a person (Subject bangs the table).
Dr.█████: Let's just calm down ok? Yeah? (Subject is silent). You're conscious but you're not a human, is that right?
SCP-XXX: (Raised voice) My father was a human. That makes me a human. I am a human. (Subject lunges across the table and attempts to grab Dr.█████, is then restrained by two security personnel. The subject screams incoherently).
